Sunday 18 November 2017: 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

We take refuge in God, placing our needs before our heavenly Father:

• We pray that Pope Francis will unite and inspire all members of the Church. May he continue to speak the truth of God’s compassion and forgiveness.

• In the light of the Pope’s recent statement on nuclear weapons, we pray for the courage to stand up for justice and peace. May we embrace and act on the teaching of the Church which asks us to work for the common good.

• We pray for all the victims of the earthquake in Iran. We ask that the bereaved find comfort and that help reaches the survivors.

• On this first World Day of the Poor we pray for the volunteers all over the world who work for and support people in poverty. We ask that we all grow in our ability to love, not with words but with deeds.

• We pray for the people of Zimbabwe. May they find hope and peace at this time of political uncertainty.

 • As the nights draw in we pray especially for all those who are homeless, especially in our neighbouring towns and cities. We ask for open hearts that are able to recognise Christ in each and every person in need, inspiring us to action.

• We pray for trust in God’s loving mercy. Despite the distress we see around us, and often have to face ourselves, we ask for the gift of faith to sustain us and the strength to face tomorrow with confidence.

Loving Lord, we ask you to hear our prayers and graciously grant them through Jesus Christ our Lord.
